Being a woman in the business world can often come with its own unique set of challenges, from juggling multiple responsibilities to facing challenges from outside sources. It’s important to remember that there are coping skills that can help you navigate these feelings and thrive in your professional life. Here are some coping skills specifically tailored for you.

1. Set Boundaries

One of the challenges that women in business often face is the difficulty of setting boundaries within their working relationships and personal relationships. To prevent feeling overwhelmed, it’s crucial to establish clear boundaries and communicate them with your colleagues and loved ones. Set specific working hours and create personal time for yourself to relax and recharge.

2.  Delegate and Ask for Help

In a professional setting, it’s common for women to take on more responsibilities than necessary. Remember that it’s okay to delegate tasks and ask for help when needed. Surround yourself with a reliable team and trust them to handle certain tasks. By sharing the workload, you can alleviate the burden on yourself and feel less overwhelmed.  This also lets your team know that you trust them and that are willing to invest in them and their development.

3. Practice Self-Care

Self-care is essential for maintaining a healthy balance and managing overwhelm. Take time for yourself to engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. Whether it’s exercising, meditating, reading, or pursuing hobbies, make self-care a priority, even if it is a simple 5 minute break with a cup of tea or a 2 minute meditation, anything is better than nothing at all.

Remember that you can’t pour from an empty cup, and taking care of yourself is crucial for your overall wellbeing.

4. Develop Effective Time Management Strategies

Time management is key when it comes to feeling overwhelmed in the business world, no-one wants their “to-do” list to have a “to-do” list! Prioritise your tasks and create a schedule to help manage your time effectively. Use tools such as calendars, to-do lists, and time-blocking techniques to stay organised and reduce the sense of overwhelm that can come from having too much on your plate.

    5. Cultivate a Supportive Network

Building a supportive network of like-minded women and mentors can provide invaluable support during times of overwhelm. Engage in networking events and join professional organizations to connect with other women in similar positions. Having a strong support system can provide a sense of camaraderie and helpful advice when facing challenges.

    6. Practice Mindfulness and Stress-Relief Techniques

In a high-pressure work environment, it’s essential to practice mindfulness and stress-relief techniques. Take short breaks throughout the day to practice deep breathing, meditation, or simple stretching exercises. These mindfulness practices can help calm the mind, reduce stress, and increase resilience to overwhelming situations.  Remember, doing something for a couple of minutes through your day is better than not doing anything at all.
